Day 1 - LA

Last night I landed on schedule with bags in tow. Success! I'm usually really good on planes but this time I was so antsy. Sorry dude sitting next to me.

Lar met me at the airport dressed as a soccer mom driving a minivan. It was awesome. We went back to her place and stayed up late chatting and catching up, not going to bed until about 1:30am (or 4:30 am my time).

Today we started off in Santa Monica walking along the Third Street Promenade. It was a lot of your usually shops mixed in with some touristy ones. Even though it wasn't hot (barley 70*) I was just glad to be outside without a coat on. Lara got her handwriting analyzed on the street for $5 and the dude had a lot of interesting things to say. We saw kids playing music on the street and I assumed they were being trafficked. Wan-wahhhh.

We picked up a patsy at a British shop and then some Juice with a capital J to go with it. Mine (the original) tasted like grass and Lar's tasted like beets. This is a trend I'll be passing on from here on out. In any case we took our goods to the Santa Monica pier and ate them while we people and surf watched. I faced my fear by riding the Ferris wheel (it wasn't scary at all) and the views were spectacular. Totally worth it.

Then we headed over to Venice beach where we walked along the strand and did some more people watching. It was such an eclectic mix of people - families with young children, street kids, locals, tourists... a really interesting place. We walked on the sand and watched a drum circle for a bit then head home.

After a quick rest we met up with my aunt's friend for some drinks and appetizers. The app ended up being enough for us (fig, bacon, and blue cheesy pizza, yum) so Lara and I skipped dinner and went over to the Manhattan Beach Pier for a drink. I realized I left my ID at home after we paid for the meter. We couldn't get in anywhere so we called it an early night. Welcome to LA!
